This Summer BWWP is celebrating 50 years of Hip Hop with Queens Public Library’s Collections of Culture: 50 Years of Hip Hop Inside Libraries, Museums, and Archives and The Gates Preserve. Black women writers who have contributed to the cultural significance of hip hop have long been the unsung heroines in the male-dominated world of music criticism. Their powerful and fearless words have allowed them to navigate through the complexities of intersectional identities, challenging societal norms and pushing the craft of cultural criticism to new levels. They are the unapologetic storytellers of their truth, using their art to empower, inspire, and center their narratives. From June until August, we’re giving these trailblazers the praise they are due.
